Every year, since I was a baby, it has been the tradition to make Christmas Cookies, starting right after Thanksgiving. I carried on that tradition when I left home and moved in with my brother and his wife. I make about 20 different kinds of cookies and candies. We share plates of them with family, friends, neighbors, teachers, postal workers, and the bank we deal with. This year I wanted to share with all my friends at RAOK through recipes. I wish I could really give you each some cookies, but that is impossible. :( This is the next best thing though.

Peanut Butter Blossums

1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

colored sugars
Hershey kisses unwrapped

Thoroughly cream together shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and peanut butter. Then add the flour, baking soda, and the salt. Mix the dough thoroughly. It will be stiff. Roll into balls and dip just the tops into colored sugars. Then place sugar side up onto baking sheets. Place the cookie sheet into the oven at 325 to 350 degrees, depending on your oven for about 7 to 10 minutes. Check often, when the balls have puffed and started to crack, remove from oven and place one Hershey kiss into the center of each cookie. Then put back into the oven for about 4 to 5 minutes to finish baking the cookie. Remove from oven and lay the cookies single layer onto waxed paper or brown paper bags to cool. The kiss will take a long time to firm back up. Be patient. When fully cooled you can stack them into cookie tins and freeze until christmas.

Beware Gremlins may come along and try to steal just the kiss from the center LOL
